Flight is delayed so long that passengers could have just driven there
3 hrs ago
The flight from Oakland, Calif., to Provo, Utah, is supposed to take 90 minutes. For passengers flying Monday on Allegiant Air, it took more than 11 hours just waiting to take off. Flight 1032 was supposed to depart at 9:30 a.m., but the plane had to be towed back to the gate because of a “nose gear steering issue.” Not having any spare planes handy, Allegiant flew in another aircraft, and the flight was rescheduled for 4 p.m. Unfortunately, Plane No. 2 also had a mechanical problem. So Allegiant flew in a third plane. This one actually pulled away from the gate, but the captain noticed it needed more fuel, so the plane came back, refueled and finally took off at 8:48 p.m., 11 hours and 18 minutes behind schedule. Passengers were understandably irate. Allegiant provided food and beverages, $100 vouchers and the option to cancel or reschedule with no fees, but perhaps it should have offered rental cars. According to Bing Maps, the drive from Oakland to Provo is, coincidentally, 11 hours long.
